PIVOT NOT PERFECTION

Happy New Year!

2025 is well underway, and I pray it is a year of peace, productivity, growth, and an abundant amount of blessings.

Whilst I think it’s important to have certain visions and goals in place, it’s equally important to remember that you are human. Perfection is merely a figment of our imagination—it does not exist.

Schedules, timelines, and generally having order are great ways to live, but a particular saying that has been a comfort to me as we transition into a new year has been:

"PIVOT, NOT PERFECTION."

It reminds me that a plan can be in place, but life happens, and you need to be able to pivot and quickly adapt to any obstacles that come your way. It’s about getting rid of the ideology that everything has to be perfectly aligned, or that all the ducks need to be in a row before you can execute and take action. As you may have found, procrastination can be a direct result of this type of mentality.

Maybe you said you would start eating clean and start the gym today…

AND THEN, SUDDENLY (Dramatic pause)

Your boiler breaks down. You miss the morning window to go to the gym. Now, you’re late for work and stress-eat on snacks because of this unexpected and rather annoying blunder. The intention was there from the night before, but the execution wasn’t. And quite simply, sis, that’s okay. Ask yourself: What is the next best thing that I can do?

Maybe you could take the stairs instead of the lift at your workplace, or go for a 20-minute walk on your lunch break. Maybe you can go to the gym in the evening and shower at the gym while the boiler gets fixed. It’s about giving yourself grace and compassion to get things done—without beating yourself up!

It’s about not doing nothing, but thinking proactively and making the next best choice. Let this year be a year of productivity and growth, but also compassion and flexibility for when things just don’t go to plan.
